WHERE IS BAT?

The site of Bat is located in the inner piedmont of the Hajar Mountains, in the modern Sultanate of Oman. The site is located within a tributary of the Wadi Khabir, a major pass through the mountains and a seasonal riverbed.

THE UMM AN-NAR

Bat is known for its large assortment of monuments dating to the Umm an-Nar period (ca. 2700-2000 BCE).  These include at least seven so-called 'towers' (Kasr al-Rojoom featured to the right) and almost 100 communal tombs.  Less known but of equal importance are the zones of Umm an-Nar domestic occupation at the site, known to exist on the Settlement Slope and in isolated locations across the Bat landscape.
